Town of Wallace Warns of Scam Wallace Town officials are warning citizens in the area of a phone scam whereas people receive calls that appear to be originating form the Wallace Police Dept. telephone number. During the call, the scammers claim they are raising funds for the Carolina Strawberry Festival. The Town of Wallace has posted to social media about the calls saying:
"Please be informed that neither the Town nor its police
department is engaged in such solicitations. UNDER NO
CIRCUMSTANCES should you provide credit card information
over the phone to these callers.
It's crucial to note that the
Carolina Strawberry Festival
will NEVER request credit card details over the phone.
Sponsorship requests are typically conducted in person, and
any deviation from this should raise red flags.
Exercise caution and refrain from engaging with such
callers. If you encounter any suspicious activity, please
report it immediately to the appropriate authorities. Let's
ensure the safety and security of our community businesses."

Fire Displaces Wallace Family A house fire in Wallace Thursday night did serious damage to a house at the corner of Main Street and Cumberland Street. Wallace Fire Department Chief Taylor Johnson told the Wallace Channel that while the family is left displaced by the fire, they were able to retrieve some valuables from the home and no one was injured. Fighting the fire did come with a challenge for firefighters when a portion of the home exploded due to smoke build-up. No one was injured during the explosion.

Railroad fans likely felt sad seeing the railroad crossing signs being removed from Main Street in downtown Wallace a few days ago. Attempted Traffic Stops Leads to Shooting and Arrest Wallace police were attempting to execute a traffic stop on a motorcycle Monday night, Sept. 11th, on U.S. Highway 117, when the cyclist allegedly opened fire at law enforcement with a handgun. Officers were attempting to stop the cyclist on suspecion of driving while impaired. The cyclist ditched the cycle and left on
foot, but was later arrested and charged with two
2 counts of Attempted First Degree Murder The arrested man was identified as 35-year-old Gary Wayne Devane

Wallace Intersection Now a Four-Way Stop The N.C. Department of Transportation has announced that the intersection of Old Camp Road and Wards Road became a four-way stop on Sept. 5th, this coming. DOT decided to change the intersection after reviewing safety concerns. Drivers using the intersection should be especially cautious over the next several weeks since frequent users of the intersection will likely take time to become accustomed to the new stop signs. |

Wallace Police Campaign Nets
Arrests While most of us enjoyed Labor Day weekend, Wallace Police were working to keep our roads safe. A "Booze It and Lose It" checkpoint on NC 41 between 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. resulted in 54 charges and numerous arrests. Charges included DWI, open container, drug and weapon charges and others. The N.C. Highway Patrol, Pender County Sheriff's Department and the Wallace Fire Department all played a role in the campaign.
